Market recovery
Nifty gained 2.0% and Sensex 1.83% over the week; broader indices rose more than 2%.
Oil and rates
Brent settled at $117.64 and the 10-year G-sec at 7.4139%.

External buffer

Headline Analysis: growth under constraint
October gross GST collections rose 22.9% as September industrial production advanced 6.7%. These are different economic signals: tax receipts are nominal, whereas IIP measures the volume of industrial production. Stronger domestic activity and an equity rebound coexist with expensive crude and tighter sovereign financing. Durable improvement requires broader earnings and genuine cash conversion.
Markets confirmed a partial recovery, not a clean reset. Pharma and healthcare led the advance, while Friday’s US technology selloff and Brent above $117 left a defensive global handover.

Global Economy & Geopolitics
The Federal Reserve held its target range at 3.75% to 4.00% on 28 October, and the European Central Bank kept rates unchanged on 29 October. Neither decision eliminates the effect of expensive crude oil on India’s import bill, inflation and financing costs.
ESTIC 2026 highlighted India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, energy and critical technologies. The economic test is whether research translates into financed productive capacity, competitive supply chains and real cash flows.

India Macro & Liquidity Radar
Wholesale inflation at 11.39%, a 7.4139% sovereign yield and a seventh weekly fall in reserves show that nominal and external constraints are binding. RBI support can reduce disorderly adjustment, but it cannot remove the real income transfer created by expensive oil.

Research & Data Brief
October GST and September industrial production provide stronger fiscal and activity readings, but the two series measure different things. Faster nominal tax collections alone do not establish an equivalent increase in real household spending.
Tax receipts
October gross GST rose 22.9% to ₹2.31 lakh crore; net collections increased 25.6% to ₹2.03 lakh crore.
Industrial production
September IIP rose 6.7%, with manufacturing up 7.6%.
Fiscal balance
The April–September fiscal deficit reached 42.1% of the annual Budget Estimate.
External costs
Brent settled at $117.64 on 30 October. Delivered oil costs remain a test for profits, inflation and the rupee.

A record order inflow strengthens visibility. The analytical question is conversion quality, not headline backlog alone. The thesis weakens if cash conversion or project margins deteriorate despite growth.
Global-to-India Transmission
Energy raises the import bill; global rate pauses reduce one source of dollar pressure; and the US technology selloff challenges valuation support for long-duration assets. Stronger Indian factory data partially offsets, but does not cancel, those channels.
Scenario Matrix
Moderation | 25%
Oil below $105, stable reserves and easier yields. Domestic cyclicals and duration improve.
Baseline | 50%
Oil stays $110-$120, growth remains firm and policy stays tight. Dispersion widens.
Adverse | 25%
Oil above $125, weaker rupee and broader inflation. Higher rates and de-rating risk.
These are editorial scenario weights, not statistical forecasts.
Continuity & Revisions
Issue 007 warned that oil and tighter funding would test financial resilience. Brent rose further and reserves fell again, confirming the constraint. Indian equities nonetheless rebounded and IIP surprised positively, so the outcome is resilience with a narrower policy margin.
