ALBORITHM is an independent research and knowledge publication covering shipping, global trade, supply chains, geopolitics, economics, finance, markets, technology and related subjects.
Our purpose is to explain complex systems accurately, clearly and with enough context to make the analysis genuinely useful. We publish for a broad readership, from general readers and students to researchers, professionals, investors, business leaders and policy or decision-makers. That makes editorial discipline essential. A piece should be understandable without becoming simplistic, and analytical without pretending that uncertainty does not exist.
Accuracy comes first
We would rather publish later than publish something we do not trust. Material facts are checked against the strongest sources available at the time of publication. Wherever practicable, we prefer primary data, official documents, regulatory filings, institutional research, academic work and direct source material over repeated secondary claims.
A statement does not become reliable simply because many websites repeat it. Where information is incomplete, disputed or still developing, that uncertainty should remain visible.
Facts, analysis and judgment
ALBORITHM separates what is known, what the evidence suggests and what may happen next. Documented facts should be presented as facts. Analysis should be supported by evidence and reasoning. Forecasts, scenarios and forward-looking judgments should be identified as such.
We do not present a possible outcome as a certainty simply because it makes a stronger headline.
Context matters

Our work therefore tries to explain not only what happened, but why it happened, what connects to it and what may matter next.
Source quality
Sources are not treated as interchangeable. Depending on the subject, we may rely on government agencies and statistical authorities, central banks and regulators, international institutions, port and maritime authorities, company filings, academic research, recognised industry datasets and established news organisations.
Secondary reporting can be useful for chronology, context and additional perspective, but important claims should be traced to authoritative or primary evidence wherever practicable. Third-party sources may later be revised, moved or withdrawn, and ALBORITHM cannot guarantee their continued availability or accuracy after publication.
Data, charts and visual evidence
Numbers can clarify a story, but they can also mislead when stripped of context. When using data, we seek to identify the relevant period, geography, unit, source and basis of comparison. Charts, maps and graphics should help readers understand the evidence rather than exaggerate movement or manufacture significance.
Where datasets are not directly comparable, that limitation should be made clear.
